They were indeed! Personally I would say they are the best I have personally seen. Colourful, exciting, unique and extremely precise. For their first trip to the west they certainly did themselves proud.
Yeah, have you seen the Italian... I believe Tricolore... They were at Waddington one year, made the Red Arrows look like amateurs, maybe it's just a difference in attitude that creates perfection but whoever flies at close quarters in tight formation must have... well something I can't put a name to anyway But I think I'd like to see these. Great pic lovely and clear
The Red Arrows in my opinion are actually the better team than the Italians in technical terms. However definitely not the more exciting to see perform. The Red Arrows' formations are in my opinion pretty much as perfect as they are possible to be, and their routine is slick and professional. However for me, a little too perfect! So much so that their display has become a little dull for me. I guess you could argue that I have seen the Red too many times and I have become a little blasť. But I think the problem is that the display is predictable and feels a little devoid of passion. Even the commentary feels like it is being read from a script, which it probably is. The Italians however do it with style, I guess living up to their stereotype. They have a big presence and a feeling that they are true aviators and are not just carrying out another days work.
I am by no means trying to do down what the Reds do as I believe they do an excellent job, especially over the last year which must have been difficult for them in light of recent tragedies. I just wish they would inject a little more excitement back into their display. Show the world again what the Royal Air Force is capable of.
I think that you have probably nailed it there, The Red's are too perfect, but I think that the following year they upped their performance just because the Italians were better received, and in no way was I putting down their abilities, it just became sort of a personal affront because the Red Arrows are like family to us airshow followers
